Erin Baker MBE, of Christchurch is one of New Zealand’s most accomplished endurance athletes and widely regarded as one of the greatest female triathletes of all time. Her competitive career ran from 1984 to 1994, when she retired with a record of 104 wins from 121 races, and as winner of nine Ironman titles. As well as her competitive success, she is well known for her advocacy for equality in sport. Her contributions to sport were recognised with appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1993. Since retiring in 1994, she has remained active in public and governance roles, including serving as a councillor on Christchurch City Council, as a member on the Canterbury District Health Board and on the boards of Jade Stadium Ltd and Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing Ltd. She brings a strong, independent, and credible perspective of a high-performance sport with an understanding of elite athlete mentality, and deep understanding of integrity issues and athlete welfare.
