Dame Susan Devoy DNZM, of Tauranga is a former world-leading squash player and senior public servant. Dominant internationally in the late 1980s and early 1990s, she won the World Open Squash Championship four times and was named New Zealand Sports Person of the Year. Following her retirement from professional sport in 1992, Dame Devoy transitioned into leadership and governance roles, including serving as New Zealand’s Race Relations Commissioner from 2013 to 2018, where she advocated against racism and promoted social cohesion. In recognition of her services to sport and the community, she was appointed a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Dame Devoy is highly experienced in elite sport, governance, and dispute resolution. She has a strong commitment and understanding of fairness and natural justice and brings deep sport sector knowledge having been involved at all levels from a professional athlete to an administrator and governor. She offers a measured, principled approach to decision-making.
